The Five Club Relationships

    1. The Club Executive and the Parent

    The Executive agrees to:
    -provide ice and programs at a reasonable cost,
    -reasonably meet the needs of individual skaters,
    -treat parents, skaters and coaches justly,
    -achieve more for special needs skaters,
    -apply Skate Canada rules and club bylaws, and
    -ensure good ice conduct and to apply club guidelines accordingly.

    The Parent agrees to:
    -pay fees on time,
    -support the Club, its activities and to serve on its executive, and
    -bring problems directly to the Executive.

    2. The Club Executive and the Coach

    The Executive agrees to:
    -provide adequate coaching staff to deliver all the programs,
    -supply a contract which clearly outlines a coach’s responsibilities and the Club’s expectations, and
    -understand and abide by the Skate Canada code of ethics.

    The Coach agrees to:
    -understand and abide by the Skate Canada code of ethics,
    -bring problems directly to the Executive, and
    -deal at ‘arm’s length’ (not favouring any side in a transaction or dispute) with the Club, the executive, parents and skaters.

    3. The Parent and Coach

    The parent agrees to:
    -not interfere or openly criticize a coach or coaching technique,
    -pay fees on time,
    -deal at ‘arm’s length’ with coaches as it relates to their skater or any other matter concerning the club.
    The coach agrees to:
    -invoice parents on a regular, timely basis,
    -deal at ‘arm’s length’ with parents as it relates to a skater or any other matter concerning the club, and
    -not interfere or openly criticize another coach or their coaching technique.

    4. The Parent and the Skater

    The parent agrees to:
    -encourage and support the skater to perform to the best of his/her/their ability.
    The skater agrees to:
    -respect his/her/their parents’ interest in their development and to perform to their best ability.

    5. The Coach and the Skater

    The coach agrees to:
    -encourage and support the skater, regardless of ability and without favouritism,
    -recognize skaters with special needs and to seek the assistance of other coaches to meet those needs if necessary, and
    -deal at ‘arm’s length with skaters.
    The skater agrees to:
    -respect his/her/their coach and perform to the best of their ability.
