Recommended Clothing

Hockey-style, CSA-approved helmets are mandatory for all children on CanSkate sessions. A cage is not necessary but does provide the most protection for your young child. This rule is mandated by Skate Canada. If your child is not wearing the proper style helmet, s/he/they is not covered by insurance and will be asked to leave the ice. Please note that bicycle helmets are NOT acceptable.
    • Girls: Skating dresses or skirts, tights or leggings, club style of jacket and pants, track pants, hockey jerseys, sweaters, mitts
    • Boys: Track pants, sweaters, club style of jacket and pants, hockey jerseys, mitts
    • The most important thing to remember, especially in dealing with young, new skaters is that the child is warm, dry and able to move freely. Splash pants are a great option as regular snow pants are difficult for children to move in.

    • Club competitions and test days require skaters to wear dresses, skirts or white tops and plain pants (Speak with your coach for recommendations.)
    • NO jeans, scarves or hats (helmets and toques only)

Protect your skates with skate guards when walking to and from the ice. Remove when not being used to prevent rust and use a soft blade cover.
